The Nuvo Newsweekly recently met up with Cheech and Chong to discuss tonight's show at the Murat.

Indianapolis stoners unite! Your gods are coming back to bestow pearls of wisdom and donkey-choking joints upon the faithful following. If you ever took a date to a midnight screening of Still Smokin', if you ever spilled your bong because you were laughing too hard at the loony antics of Pedro and the Man, if you ever identified with the befuddled contestant, "Bob" on "Let's make a Dope Deal," pay attention: Cheech and Chong are coming back to town.
The duo, high-strung Cheech Marlin and dazed and confused Tommy Chong, whose ardent celebration of Latino culture and mind-melting drug use make them '70s icons, reunited a couple years ago to do a tour for the first time in over 30 years. It went so well they are back at it for a second round, and will come back to the Murat Center this Friday, Jan. 22.
Along with bringing out old skits and beloved characters that didn't make it for the first tour, Cheech and Chong will bring a little activism to the show, advocating for a reform of marijuana laws in the bold new Obama era.
NUVO recently spoke with Tommy Chong, just before the duo performed their first show of the tour in Boulder, Colorado.
NUVO: So, tonight's the first show of the tour? Are you ready?
Chong (Chuckling): No.
NUVO: Do you feel fortunate that the response was so good for the first tour that you are able to come out and do it again?
Chong: I'm glad, but I'm also a little disappointed; I thought I'd retire after the last tour. But our fans wanted more, so we decided to come back for a second tour. But this is it for me. Get it while you can!
NUVO: The name of this tour is the "Get it Legal Tour." Do you foresee a day when pot will be legalized in the U.S.?
Chong: I absolutely feel that pot could very well be legal in the US before the end of this year. There are just too many things that are right about it. It provides medicine for people who need it and also, states are going to see it as a solution to their financial woes. I believe that it's to the point where there're more incentives to get it legal now, all the positive things -- from jobs, to income for states, to eco-friendly products, to help for people that are really sick -- that far outweigh the negative. Not that there is anything negative about pot.
NUVO: Is this a way to make up for being partly responsible for bringing Pee Wee Herman into the world?
Chong (Laughing): I am so proud that we were able to discover Pee Wee. He was a great addition to our movies, and he did a really good job at playing the cokehead, which he really didn't have to act for (laughs). Paul had several different characters that he was thinking about doing on his own, but I convinced him to do the Pee Wee one. It obviously worked out well for him.
